    Title:
    Email Marketing Tips
    Summary:

When you use TrackVia to mass-email, your message is only effective if it gets to your intended recipients!  That's why we're continuing to augment our technology to improve your delivery rates.  For example, last week I slightly changed the structure of the email we send out in blast requests.  That change reduces the likelihood of your message being flagged as spam by 33%!

In addition to our efforts, here are several things you can do to improve your deliverability:

    1. Have a real business relationship with the people you email.  If they know you, and you have sent them email before, it is much more likely to get to them.
    2. Don't have your message look like spam.  If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, .....  Think of all the annoying things that spammers do in messages you receive.  If you do them too, then the receivers' spam filter will discard your message.  Usually, no one thing will cause your message to be flagged as spam, but spam filters use more than a thousand rules to determine whether or not to deliver you message.  I know your creative and marketing side wants to use all these cool techniques to get a higher conversion rate, but if the email doesn't get through, your conversion rate would be zero!  Specifically, the following items may make your message look like spam.
      1. Having a background color or image
      2. Embedded Flash movies
      3. Links to an ip address instead of a domain name
      4. Words with spaces in between the letters, like F R E E
      5. Javascript
      6. Images not hosted at Trackvia
      7. Certain keywords, especially in all caps (FREE, UNLIMITED, ...)
    3. Use a consistent email address.  If you really aren't sending spam, the email servers will recognize your address and let it through more often.
    4. Check for bounced reply messages and clean your list.  No point it paying to email an address that doesn't exist.  Also some servers send a reply that says something like: "click here to validate that you are a human and we'll deliver your message."  If you do, they will let your email through.  They will also remember your address and let the next email through.

Studies show that 95% of all emails are spam, so companies are justified in having advanced technology to filter it out.  By working together on the technology and content, we can continually improve the deliverabiliy of your legitimate email blast.
