    Title:
Importing database information into a Blackberry
    Summary:

    Hey everyone,

I'm so tired of my brokers and my boss calling our receptionist (or me) all day long needing phone numbers when they're on the road.  It happens all day long.  What I'd like to do, is import about 600 of our most frequently called contacts to my bosses Blackberry.

While I have a few ideas on how this might be done, I'd love to hear some insight on how you guys might accomplish this.  So far, all I can think to do is to export an excel spreadsheet of the names I want to put in there, and then import that spreadsheet into Outlook (which should just be loads of fun, considering how persnickity Outlook is).  Any other suggestions on how to do this easier?

The best thing in the world would be if I could get Trackvia to work on cell phones that can access the internet.  Obviously, it works GREAT on my iPhone, since it uses a full browser (safari) to browse the internet.  Unfortunatly, I haven't been able to convert the boss to the evils of Apple computers, and he has a Blackberry, which obviously uses some sort of mobile version of IE or whatever it is it uses to surf the net.  Trackvia doesn't behave on it at all.  Any plans for implementing a mobile version guys?

Opera offers a full HTML browser that can be downloaded onto a blackberry which would allow your boss to actually log into TrackVia from his blackberry.  This can be downloaded here.  This will allow him to enter the database of contacts and do a search like he would from a laptop or pc.

Gha.  I did it.  It does work.  I hate blackberries.  I wish he'd just get an iPhone.  I really don't know that he'll be able to navigate to trackvia, do all the scrolling around to get to the search box, and get a name typed in without putting the rest of the public in danger while he's driving.

It's the Blackberry, not Trackvia though.  Trackvia worked fine.  The Blackberry is a POS.

The problem isn't Opera. The problem is that Trackvia doesn't recognize that the connecting device is a PDA.  Many company's with web presence now recognize PDAs, in particular Blackberry, and provide a TEXT ONLY page display designed to work well with the PDA's small screen.  My previous attempts to motivate the Trackvia Team to make this implementation available have not resulted in a commitment to do so.  Perhaps more of the Trackvia users also want PDA support and can use this forum to make their wishes known.

We ended up going in and checking off about 500 or so of the contacts he calls the most - exporting it to Excel, and then uploading that into the Outlook on his phone.  I can't say it was oodles of fun or anything.  But he wasn't ever going to be able to use Trackvia itself on the phone without all this wild scrolling.
