When you first create your database you will see an "all records, all fields" view displayed on the Database Overview screen along with the search box and Tools section.  This can be removed from this screen and you can replace it with any view or views you would like.  To do this click on the "Arrange Default Views" link under Tools and select the views you wish to add to this screen.  Then you can hit the red 'X' next to the default view if you wish to stop it from appearing and can drag and drop your custom views into the order you would like to see them displayed.  This allows you to put the pertinent information on your Database Overview screen whether this is Map and Calendar formatted views or maybe a list of recently updated records.
