This isn't an official announcement, but just more of a heads up so that an upcoming change can start to sink in now. Currently, in your TrackVia account we use the term database to refer to a single table of information. But if it's a single table, shouldn't we call it a... table? Yep, we should. So, we'll be making that change in the UI pretty soon.
Second, we currently use the term Project to refer to a group of databases - oops, I mean tables. Soon, we'll be calling a group a tables an Application.
I ran into a block and I want to make sure I'm not missing something. I have an issues table and I would like to allow for the possibility of having one issue related to another. I was hoping to add a "LinkToParent" field that would allow me to select the related issue. However, I see that the current database is not included in the list of LinkToParent options. Can you help me with a workaround?
Thanks!
A previous post got me thinking about other options I'd love to see incorporated in the drop down data type:
1 - Masking
2 - Validation
3 - Field level data entry instructions help or tool tip (this could really apply to all fields)
4 - Toggle to allow users to grow the drop down list i.e. add a "new" possible value on the fly
5 - Populate list values from a unique list of existing values...similar to how you do this when a field is converted from one type to another
6 - Calculated default values (really not for drop downs I suppose)...it would be nice to calculate a suggested or default value for new records that could be overwritten.
Is it possible to create a view that totals the columns, if they have a numerical value? Basically what I'm looking for is a combination of the standard view and the statistics view. Right now we export to excel and then total them, but a view with that feature would be handy.
Thanks for creating a TrackVia trial!
To make it easier for you to try out some of TrackVia's key features, we've included a sample database in your trial account. This database is named "Customer Orders" and it includes several sample records.
We've made some quick training videos based on the Customer Orders database, and you may find it helpful to watch the videos before you jump in to the database itself.
We've also created a step-by-step getting started guide that'll guide you through each feature highlighted in the videos above.
One of the things we see as a huge advantage to Trackvia is the ability of multiple users to view records at the same time. However, there is one downside to this: recently, one of our Admin team accidentally erased a lot of data entered into a record by one of the Business Managers. She actually found the problem herself and brought it to my attention, as she was very concerned that the change-log showed her having made all of these changes she had not made. I was concerned a prankster had made use of her account, but it turned out this was not the case. Instead, while the Business Manager was editing the record, she had opened it on another PC. He hadn't saved his changes yet, so she opened an unedited version. Then he saved his changes while she had the record open, and when she subsequently saved the record, the system read this as her having deleted all of his information. This is the first time I am aware of this having happened, but it will inevitably happen again. Can you set up some sort of 'do-you-really-want-to-proceed message when a person tries to over-save with an older version of a record? Or maybe when someone closes a record, any fields they haven't touched won't revert if someone else has edited them in the meantime?
When you are using the click to change feature in TrackVia you now can save your changes and move to the next field simply by hitting the tab button on your keyboard. If you would like to go to the previous field hold down shift and then hit tab. Because many users come from Excel we've added this because of suggestions we received so you don't have to change from what you may be used to when entering data across multiple cells in a spreadsheet.
Another question for you guys. I'd like to experiment with some changes on an exsiting "production" database.
Is there a way to make a copy of an existing database? Data, structure, views, etc? Or any combination? I think that would be really helpful. I could download and re-upload the data, but I'd lose the views, etc.
Thanks,
Jason
